About Breakwater
Breakwater is a licensing and access management platform for commercial Docker containers. It lets software vendors sell time-bound, version-controlled access to their containerized products through a license-aware registry proxy.
Why Breakwater exists
Selling software as Docker containers should be straightforward, but most vendors end up duct-taping credential management onto registries that were never designed for commercial distribution. Shared passwords, manual revocations, zero visibility into who is pulling what, and no way to gate access by version or license tier.
Breakwater replaces that glue code with a purpose-built authorization layer. It sits in front of your container registry and checks every docker pull against active licenses before the request reaches your images. Per-customer credentials, automatic expiry, tag-pattern restrictions, and a full audit trail are all handled in one place.
